Inuvialuit Community Corporations
Goals and Objectives
- To set the criteria for membership in the Corporation in accordance with the applicable provisions of Section 5 of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement as approved and given effect by the Western Arctic (Inuvialuit) Claims Settlement Act, S.C. 1983 - 1984, c. 24.
- To identify and record those Inuvialuit individuals who qualify to be active members of the Corporation.
- To identify and record those Inuvialuit individuals who qualify to be honorary members of the Corporation.
- To administer, supervise, govern, and regulate matters of local concerns to the members of the Corporation.
- With the aim of protecting and advancing the interests of its members, to participate as a member of (and together with the other Inuvialuit Community Corporations to control) Inuvialuit Regional Corporation.
- Pursuant to paragraph 6(4)(a) of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement, to exercise control over any development activity approved by the Inuvialuit Land Administration or Inuvialuit Regional Corporation in respect of the block of land selected near the Corporation pursuant to paragraph 7(1)(a) of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement.
- To receive moneys from all sources for community purposes and to disburse same as appropriate, either by ways of direct grant or support of specific community-oriented projects.
- To establish the Inuvialuit Community Corporation Hunters and Trappers Committees and determine the qualifications for membership therein.
