The Capacity Team consists of a Capacity Manager, a Capacity Advisor, an Academic Advisor, and five Student and Family Support Workers. The main objective of the Capacity Team is to create development opportunities in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region through strengthening attendance and participation; building relationships between families and schools; and creating events and courses to increase abilities of all Inuvialuit.
Student and Family Support Workers act as a liaison between students and families to school staff. One of the major focuses for the SFSWs is to increase attendance and engagement. This may be done through home visits, culturally relevant program planning, career counselling, and connecting people to other resources in the community.
The Academic Advisor provides a flexible learning environment for learners to upgrade their secondary school standing so that they may pursue higher levels of education. Located on the second floor of the Inuvialuit Community Corporation building in Inuvik, instruction is available five days a week, which also includes two evenings for people who work full time.
The Capacity team supports the above positions and develops programming to increase possibilities for people to connect with fellow Inuvialuit. Whether it be through a regional Youth Symposium, workshops to develop Essential Skills, or collaborating with external organizations to create training opportunities, the team strives to produce meaningful programming that is culturally relevant.
