IRC is pleased to share our completed regional suicide prevention strategy titled Aulaqatigiikta, Ilumun Ikayuqatigiikluta (Moving Forward, Healing Together).

Aulaqatigiikta, Ilumun Ikayuqatigiikluta (Moving Forward, Healing Together) – Inuvialuit Settlement Region Suicide Prevention Strategy

The strategy and its powerful title was created through listening to front-line staff, Elders, leadership and community members, who shared their stories, concerns and ideas on how to address suicide in the region. IRC is committed to implementing this strategy in partnership with other service providers, community/regional organizations and individuals/families. 

Aulaqatigiikta, Ilumun Ikayuqatigiikluta has placed culture and collaboration as its’ core foundation to build from, to help people heal from past traumas and move toward rich futures. The strength of Inuvialuit is integral to the success of Aulaqatigiikta, Ilumun Ikayuqatigiikluta.

Speaking about suicide is not easy. IRC would like to formally thank each and every person who contributed to the creation of Aulaqatigiikta, Ilumun Ikayuqatigiikluta (Moving Forward, Healing Together). Our gratitude goes to you, for trusting us enough to open up and share such deeply personal experiences with us.

Today, September 10th is a day of recognition across the world for suicide prevention. We urge everyone to continue to support one another, reach out when you are struggling and turn to our teachings from the Elder’s to help guide our paths forward. As Inuvialuit, we have overcome many adverse experiences and we continue to find strength and healing in the language, the land, drum dancing, and other aspects of culture. IRC welcomes everyone to work together to move forward and heal together.
